This day will focus on sharing stories to acknowledge the diverse pathways that can be taken towards neuroscience. We will have a keynote address from Dr. Ishmail Abdus-Saboor and a panel on navigating non-linear career journeys, where we will highlight our panelists’ #BlackJourneyToNeuro and transitions in their neuroscience journey.

Keynote Address: Dr. Ishmail Abdus-Saboor

9-10 AM PT / 12-1 PM ET / 5-6 PM BST

Ishmail attended an HBCU, North Carolina A&T, followed by a Ph.D. in Cell and Molecular Biology at UPenn and postdoc training at Cornell and UPenn. He has received many honors and awards including an NIH K99/R00 Pathway to Independence Award and BWF PDEP Fellowship as a postdoc. Since opening his lab, he has been named a Rita Allen Foundation Scholar, Sloan Research Fellow, Pew Biomedical Scholar, HHMI Freeman Hrabowski Scholar, McKnight Scholar, and recipient of the Chan Zuckerberg Science Diversity Leadership Award and NIH DP2 New Innovator Award.

In this event you will hear from 2 different speakers who will share their lived experiences of moving through academia and researching neuroscience. They will outline key lessons that they have learned through their journeys to and through Neuro. These events will be open and allow for a community dialogue where vital tips can be shared.
